(NOTE: The following page has been revised. We reached too many conclusions for you, and we wanted you to reach them yourself. We are obviously very disappointed in this man, but we feel his words and actions speak for themselves and we do not need to editorialize unnecessarily.)
Please do not mistake this as a crusade against religion, Christianity, or even Evangelicalism. This section is only to specifically bring to the light the behavior of Pastor Rick Warren. Considering the materials below, it is hugely disappointing and hurtful that he was allowed to deliver the invocation at President Obama’s inauguration.
One encouraging note, while standing outside his Saddleback Church and protesting, a surprising number of people driving into the property honked and waved their support; definitely more than those who visibly showed their opposition to our message. It gave a great deal of hope to thing that maybe it won’t be that hard for each side to start building a bridge and meet in the middle.
We are trying to fact-check some of the articles below, and we know blogs aren’t going to give unbiased information, but we have no reason to believe that they aren’t true either. And with that, here is Pastor Warren, uncovered…
PASTOR WARREN’S OWN WORDS
We had bookmarked several different YouTube segments to share Rick Warren’s own words. We felt that it wasn’t fair to just tell you what he said because we could be making it up. Please note that many of these clips also include commentary and while we may or may not agree with them, the intent is to share with you the Pastor’s own words and not to endorse the commentary.
The following segment has been edited by the blogger who posted it for maximum dramatic effect. However, no matter which “side” of the marriage debate you land on, you can’t help but see that the man is trying to recraft his own image and deny some of his previous statements. Additionally, it has Barack Obama stating that he will fight for equal legal rights for same-sex couples. It isn’t gay marriage, but that’s the closest we’ve come to a leader who supports equal rights, so we need to make sure we hold him to it.
This clip opens with Pastor Rick Warren’s most hurtful statements:
In the following clip, Pastor Warren suggest that all homosexuals have multiple partners because they are immature. So, if he really has gay friends and is truly supportive of homosexuals, why would he then want to take away a chance for them to demonstrate their maturity and legally commit to one partner?
RICK WARREN’S AFRICA PROBLEM
He claims to be a huge supporter of AIDS education, especially in Africa. But please check out this article from Max Blumenthal’s THE BEAST to see what he would appear to believe AIDS education should be: Rick Warren’s Africa Problem
